Our Many-Voiced Country – StAnza 2026

Our Many-Voiced Country is a project created by our Makar*, Padraig Macaoidh (Peter Mackay). He has paired Scottish poets who work across non-English languages to create pieces inspired by one another’s work and conversation.

Juana Adcock and I created a new multilingual collaborative poem, about mango-time, that weaves together our Scots, Jamaican Patwah, English, Mexican Spanish, and Papiamento. Through our conversations, translating and writing together, we came upon ‘mango-time’ as a decolonial concept, as well as a way to celebrate our heritage and interests as poets.

We’re looking forward to giving this poem its first outing at StAnza International Poetry Festival on the 14th March, and discussing our journey; along with conversation and new works from Agata Masłowska, Iyad Hayatleh, Meg Bateman and Robert Crawford.

The event will be livestreamed on StAnza’s YouTube for those who cannot make it in person.
