Here are some notes on early submissions that were successful and encouraged me to keep going…
The Apple Inspector
The very first story I had published was The Apple Inspector. It was from the point of view of a chatty young girl who doesn’t stop talking, but there’s something else going on in her family – her mum is seriously ill.
The Apple Inspector was a Finalist in the Momaya Press 2010 Short Story Competition and included in their anthology, on the theme of ‘Family’. Buy the Momaya Press 2010 Anthology.
The Brink
The Brink was Shortlisted in the Words With Jam 2011 Short Story Competition. The story featured frustrated painter Mark who was stuck in an office job he hated and sat next to an employee he couldn’t stand. It paid a pittance and he was about to become a father. Needless to say, he was stressed out!
Chipped and Wandering
Chipped and Wandering followed the misadventures of a chipped button as it travelled from child to child in a funny, moving short story.
‘Chipped and Wandering’ was Highly Commended, The Yellow Room Spring 2012 Short Story Competition.
