I’m utterly thrilled to be shortlisted for the Sky Arts RSL Writers Award 2022 in the poetry category!
The Sky Arts RSL Writers Awards celebrate and nurture British writers of colour at the beginnings of their careers. Five winners receive ten mentoring sessions over the course of 12 months with an RSL Fellow writing in their form, as well as two sessions with Awards Ambassador Bernardine Evaristo.
Each category has one winner and two shortlisted writers – big congratulations to everyone below!
Shortlisted writers:
- Fiction: Kalbinder Dayal, Mubeenah Waheed
- Non-Fiction: Claire Abji, Theresa Muñoz
- Playwriting: Shez Chung-Blake, Maeve Clarke
- Poetry: Zarah Alam, Jeda Lewis (me!)
- Screenwriting: Krishna Istha, Jen Francis
The winners of the 2022 awards are:
- Fiction: Kim Squirrell, mentored by Nadifa Mohamed
- Non-Fiction: Sabrina Mahtani mentored by Nikesh Shukla
- Playwriting: Hannah Shury-Smith, mentored by Inua Ellams
- Poetry: Zainab Imran, mentored by Jay Bernard
- Screenwriting: Jenna Al-Ansari, mentored by Vinay Patel

The Royal Society of Literature is Britain’s national charity for the advancement of literature. They have a number of annual awards and, in 2022, the Sky Arts RSL Writers Award is in its second year. There were over 250 entries. Find out more about the Sky Arts RSL Writers Awards.
